The Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force (SOHTCTF) is located in a state-of-the-art secure facility. The task force includes a digital evidence forensics laboratory, criminal investigations section, training facility, property and evidence control, review room, conference room, storage, break room, prosecutor office, intern space, and administrative offices.
The forensics laboratory is an accredited ASCLD/LAB forensic crime lab and one of the few accredited digital evidence labs in the nation. Our forensics laboratory is equipped with specialized forensic computer workstations, cellular phone forensic equipment, equipment to conduct examinations on windows, unix, and mac platforms, and a wide array for forensic hardware and software. The lab is equipped with its own internal secure network with several servers and a 28 Terabyte Storage Area Network (SAN) to store forensic evidence and cases on.
The laboratory has several specialized pieces of equipment including a full Mac forensic workstation, a video forensic analysis workstation, a cellular phone forensic workstation with Faraday box, and multiple custom built general computer forensic workstations. Each examiner is provided a forensic workstation that is built by members of the task force to the best specifications possible. We utilize 64 bit operating systems, solid state hard drives, quad core processors, massive amounts of RAM, and the highest quality video and RAID cards. Each workstation also has dual 23" monitors to assist examiners in conducing the forensic examinations. Examiners are also provided with specialized laptops to do forensic work in the field, typically a Macbook Pro or an Alienware laptop.
In addition to excellent hardware, the lab has dozens of forensic software packages to assist in the forensic examination of all types of digital evidence. From seven suites of cellular phone forensic software to FTK Lab Lite the lab uses the most advanced software available. Each piece of forensic hardware and software used by the lab is licenses to the task force and tested by members of the task force in a validation process to ensure everything works correctly before actually being used on a criminal investigation case.
