Welcome to the law enforcement section of the task force's website. The Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force provides cyber crime investigations and digital forensic analysis for federal, state, and local law enforcement throughout Oregon. The agencies represented within the task force include the Central Point Police Department, Medford Police Department, and the FBI.
Cases submitted for investigation or analysis to the task force are prioritized based upon the law enforcement agency's status. Those agencies which participate (assign full-time personnel to the task force) will have their cases given top priority. Agencies which contribute resources to the task force such as equipment, software, hardware, training, etc. will have their cases worked after participating agencies. Lastly, agencies that neither assign personnel or contribute anything to the task force are considered user agencies and can submit cases to the task force on a case-by-case basis as approved by the task force commander. The only exception to this is cases submitted to the task force specifically for Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) cases.
Within the agency categories of participating/contributing/user cases submitted to the task force will be further triaged by the task force commander and assigned to the appropriate criminal investigator and/or forensic examiner. Cases may occasionally be assigned outside of agency categories based upon the threat level presented by the case. For example, a user agency may have a homicide case where digital evidence plays a critical role. The task force commander may assign resources to that investigation immediately due to the threat level of the case. The task force may also decline to investigate cases from non participating or non contributing agencies due to lack of resources or based upon the type of case.
Our website features a law enforcement restricted web portal which has many resources for law enforcement and prosecutors. Some information available include law enforcement guides for many electronic communication service providers, search warrant and other court order templates, case law decisions, software, and more.
